Founded in 1988, EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY FICTION is a leading peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study of prose fiction from the long eighteenth century (c. 1660–1830), with a primary focus on British and Irish fiction, while also welcoming scholarship on transatlantic and European contexts. The journal publishes rigorous scholarly articles, critical essays, book reviews, and review essays that explore the form, themes, and cultural significance of eighteenth-century fiction, including canonical works by authors such as Daniel Defoe, Samuel Richardson, Henry Fielding, Laurence Sterne, and Jane Austen, as well as lesser-known and understudied texts. It embraces interdisciplinary approaches, integrating literary analysis with historical, cultural, gender, and postcolonial studies, and serves as a vital forum for scholars advancing research on the development of the novel as a literary form and its role in shaping eighteenth-century society and thought.
