Journal introduction:

Founded in 1965, Early American Literature (EAL) is the official peer-reviewed academic journal of the Society of Early Americanists and the Modern Language Association (MLA) Forum on Early American Literature. As the leading international forum dedicated to the field, it publishes rigorous scholarly research, critical essays, book reviews, and review essays focused on American literary and cultural production from its colonial origins through the early national period (c. 1830). The journal embraces a broad, hemispheric scope, welcoming innovative work on Native American oral traditions, British, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German colonial literatures, as well as writings in English from British America and the early United States. It promotes interdisciplinary and diverse critical approaches, serving as a foundational resource for scholars advancing the study of early American textual cultures, Atlantic world studies, and the histories of race, gender, and print culture.
